Adult Programs

Novel Book Club Third Thursday Each Month 6:00PM

         Every month a book is chosen by our program
facilitator to discuss. Each month they meet on the third
Thursday of that month at 6:00PM at the library to discuss the book. Pick up your copy of the book club book at the front desk. No registration is required.

February 16th’s book is Crying in H Mart by Michelle Zauner

March 16th’s book is Black Buck by Mateo Askaripour

April 20th‘s book is Laura Dean Keeps Breaking Up with Me by Mariko Tamaki

 

Graphic Novel and Manga Club On Discord
  Every month, our program facilitator will choose a theme for books to discuss, any book that fits in the theme is welcome to be discussed throughout the month on our Discord. Join our

English Language Learning Conversation Circle Mondays at 1:00PM

  Come practice your English in a group with other learners. Discussions and activities will be aimed at beginner speakers, but will adapt to the level of the group. There will be a new topic each week. This program is in partnership with Rocky View Immigrant Services, Rocky View
Community Adult Learning, City of Chestermere,  Prospect, and Government of Alberta.

 

Mindfulness Yoga Thursdays 12:00PM

           Join our mindful yoga series where we will explore yogic breath
techniques, gentle movement, and guided relaxation. This class supports increased connection between breath, mind, and body. It is a great midday reset for your nervous system.
This 45 minute class is suitable for adults and older adults of any experience level.
Suggested for each class: comfortable clothes, yoga mat, blocks, and a
water bottle.
*Please let us know ahead of time if you require a mat.

 

Bibs, Burps, and Breaks Thursdays 1:30PM

  Join us after Baby Storytime for some time to chat with other new parents and caregivers in the community. Children are welcome to play as parents and caregivers chat. We will have
refreshments and snacks available. No registration is required.

 

Adult Crafts

Join us for a variety of adult crafts taking place in the library. Registration is required for each of these crafts.
Registration for the January and February Crafts begins January 2nd 2023.
Registration for the March and April Crafts begin February 21st 2023.

 

Valentines Monoprints Wednesday February 8th 5:30PM

  Create your very own one-of-a-kind printed image on paper that you
can turn into a unique Valentine card to share with someone you appreciate.

 

Upcycled Book Planter Wednesday March 22nd 5:30PM

  Grow your home library collection and create your very own upcycled planter!

 

Seed Bombs Saturday April 1st 1:00PM
  Make your own self-sowing seed bombs. Add bee-friendly or
wildflower seeds to your garden, a friend’s garden, a planter pot, or any
outdoor space that could use some beautiful blooms.

Reading Buddies  Thursday at 4:15PM Grades 7-12
  This program is a volunteer partnership to help facilitate reading and literacy in younger
children. Become a buddy by contacting us at info@chestermerepubliclibrary.com.
In order to volunteer for the reading buddies program the following qualifications must be met:
Strong communication skills

Ability to motivate and mentor children

Strong literacy skills

Reliable and a positive attitude

Committed to program dates

Teen Volunteer Experience  Ages 14-18

Early Literacy Programs

Drop in Storytime Tuesdays, Thursdays, & Fridays at 10:15AM

         No need to register for this Storytime designed with the whole family in mind. Everyone is welcome to join us for songs and stories.

 

Preschool Readiness Wednesdays at 1:00PM

  This program is aimed towards young kids aged 3-5 to build their confidence and
independence before they go into school.  Parents are asked to stay in the library while the kids are in the program room for a variety of stories, activities, and crafts. Registration is required.

 Drop in Baby Storytime Thursdays 1:00PM
  This program is designed for parents, caregivers, and babies 0-18 months. There’s books, songs, reading, and playing. No Registration is required. This is a great program for new parents and caregivers to interact with others, and stay after for our Bibs, Burps, and Breaks at 1:30PM.

 

Afterschool @ CPL Sponsored by Chestermere FCSS

STEAM Mondays at 4:15PM. Ages 6-12
           Try some quick and easy S.T.E.A.M.
Projects at the library! FUN-filled activities
with scientific explanation.  

Each week features new activity about Science,
Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics.
Registration is required for STEAM.

 

CHECK! Out Chess Tuesdays at 4:15PM. Ages 6-12

         You are welcome to join us for this program, whether
you are just learning or you’ve already been playing chess.
Registration is required for this program.

 

LEGO Wednesdays at 4:15PM. Ages 6-12

  LEGO is back for another season! Join us for some
 fun LEGO play! No registration is required, the first 12 people to the library will be admitted into the program.

 

Reading Buddies Thursdays at 4:15PM. Grades 1-3

  Join us for this brand new program to help facilitate reading and literacy. Teen volunteers are matched with early elementary students learning to read. We will provide an activity then the student is asked to pick a book to read with their buddy.
Registration is required for Reading Buddies.

 

Game On!  Fridays at 4:15PM. Ages 6-12

  Join us for this brand new program for some gaming fun. Board games and game consoles will be set up in the program room. No registration is required, the first 12 people to the library will be admitted into the program.
